The MBiotech Program is grounded in the life sciences and represents an innovative approach to professional graduate education, aimed squarely at science graduates seeking a Master’s degree that provides a portal into industry, not-for-profit organisations and the private sector. It also represents a unique educational niche at the interface between two disciplines, science and business

MBiotech commences each year in May and is tailored to meet the evolving needs of our students, and those of the global health sciences industry. The Program’s faculty is drawn from the departments of BiologyChemical & Physical Sciences and Management. The Program also invites guest lecturers from the biotechnology sector, government agencies, public and private companies and members of other University of Toronto faculties.

MBiotech identifies with these core values:

  • Science undergraduates inherently possess untapped career potential that can be realised through exposure to business concepts;
  • The analytical nature of science lends itself to the study of business economics, management, and strategy;
  • Scientists are, by their training, inured to the pursuit of individual excellence and require a strong, and often paradigm-shifting education in the value of teamwork and the successful running of collaborative enterprises; and
  • Graduates educated in the core life sciences can bring unparalleled and mission critical value to science-based businesses.

 The Program offers streams in both Biopharmaceuticals (BioPh) and Digital Health Technologies (DHT). Irrespective of stream undertaken, Year 1 is heavily weighted towards classroom courses, and the experiential learning is delivered by the Work Term courses in Years 1 & 2| Next
