MBiotech 2015 › Jeff Tam
How did your experience in the MBiotech program contribute to your career success?
The MBiotech program was a key contributor to my career success. The program provided me a core understanding of the biopharmaceutical industry, developed my soft skills, and ability to work in a team environment. My internship at GSK was fundamental in launching my career within this industry and I've since been able to connect with other alumni as my career has grown.
What are some of the key skills and knowledge you acquired during the MBiotech program that are still valuable to you today?
A lot of the soft skills I acquired during the program are the ones that I continue to develop and still find extremely valuable today. Whether its communication skills, collaborating with peers, project management, or something else, these are skills that will be pivotal in anyone's career.
What advice would you give to current MBiotech students or recent graduates who are entering the job market?
I think our industry has been and continues to evolve quickly. Traditional career paths are being challenged, updated, or modified. Previous requirements to certain roles have changed over time while new functions and roles have been created. I would encourage recent graduates to always challenge the status quo when it comes to their career path and own their development.
Are there any memorable or transformative experiences from your time in the MBiotech program that you would like to share?
Staying on top of biopharma news would also help as graduates look to position their careers based on evolving industry needs. Some of my most memorable moments from my time in the MBiotech has got to be the wonderful friends I've made along the way; many of whom I still interact with today. Through working in our industry, I've had the opportunity to meet other alumni and it's always been a pleasant experience knowing that we share a connection to MBiotech.
