Snider Lecture: Margaret Trudeau to discuss mental health at public talk

Margaret Trudeau

Former Canadian First Lady and mental health advocate Margaret Trudeau will share her life story and message of resilience in the face of mental health challenges at a free public lecture Monday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m. in the Instructional Centre, room 110, U of T Mississauga, 3359 Mississauga Rd.

Margaret Trudeau was married to former Canadian prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, becoming the youngest First Lady in the history of Canada. As time went by, Margaret was unprepared for public life, and plagued by mood swings. After three sons with Pierre, the marriage ended. She then remarried and had two more children. But the tragic loss of her son, Michel, in a skiing accident, and the passing of Pierre Trudeau a few years later, were too much to bear, and she became severely ill.

Today, she has rebuilt her life. She brings her formidable life story to the stage in her quest to help others, sharing her message of resilience with the goals of inspiring others and erasing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

Trudeau’s lecture is sponsored by the Snider Committee at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to register online at www.utm.utoronto.ca/snider-lecture/
