Here at UTMLA’s on-line pre-university program, you will learn a core set of competencies that will help you be ready for post-secondary studies. Delivered and facilitated by a team of professors and instructors at the Department of Language Studies and certified teachers, the program offers opportunities to develop your leadership and community engagement all while advancing your communication competencies in English.

Meet the Instructors
Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Coulson is the Coordinator of Education Studies at the Department of Language Studies in the University of Toronto Mississauga. She brings expertise in leadership studies, conflict resolution, equity, diversity and international education. She is currently involved in a major research project that studies the use of artificial intelligence in language learning contexts to support newcomer Canadians. For several decades, she has served in various leadership roles including instructing at both the undergraduate and graduate level in teacher education. Dr. Coulson was the liaison to the Ontario Ministry of Education and holds a doctorate in Education. She was also a former elementary and secondary teacher. Highly experienced in international education, she is co-chair of the Dean’s Experiential Learning Group (ELG) and is responsible for founding a variety of global internship and pre-university programs in countries including China, India, Ecuador and Portugal.
Dr. Ilan Danjoux is a highly experienced teacher, instructor and researcher at the University of Toronto. He has significantly contributed to the fields of design thinking, entrepreneurism, education and dialogical learning. He holds a doctorate degree focused on policy and discourse analysis and was Assistant Professor at Concordia University before joining University of Toronto.
Dr. Paul C. Alexander is an experienced academic, teacher practitioner and consultant currently teaching education and technology courses across the University of Toronto undergraduate and graduate programs. Paul has spent several years specializing in digital media, instructional and educational technology. His current research centers around the use and affordances immersive technologies (ex. VR-AR-360-3D-AI) in learning contexts.
Martin Carangal, MT, OCT, is a human health science specialist with expertise in biology and chemistry. He has nearly close to a decade of experience teaching in various contexts. He has worked as a Biology Teaching Assistant, lab technician, and Senior Program Assistant at the University of Toronto. Martin brings experience leading, developing programs, and teaching second language in several U of T international programs.
Anthony Faulkner, MT, OCT, is a qualified teacher with experience several year. He has an academic background in English and Anthropology and his research interests centre on content creation and creative writing in various contexts including the video gaming space. He holds a Master of Teaching degree from the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in the Humanities.
