ExStik Waterproof PH100 to measure soil pH
ExStik Waterproof pH meter model PH100 can be used take measurement of solutions and soil pH. This pH meter can measure pH 0 to 14 with accuracy of up to 2 decimal places.
Attention: Be careful that you don’t break the glass at the tip of the pH module.
Materials:
- pH meter with battery and pH module attached
- working aliquots of calibration standards/solutions: pH 4, 7, 10
- storage solution
- wash beaker
- rinse bottle with distilled water
- Kim wipes to dry wet pH module
- clean gloves
Methods:
- Turn on Extik pH meter and remove the green cap.
- Using rinse bottle, wash the pH module with distilled water.
- Soak the module in pH4 solution for atleast 10 minutes. Rinse with distilled water. Dry with kim wipes.
Calibration using pH 4, 7 and 10 solutions.
- Soak pH module in pH 7 solution and then press CAL. The pH should read 7 after a few seconds. Rinse and dry.
- Tranfer pH module into pH 4 solution. Press CAL. Wait until the pH value is stable. Rinse and dry.
- Move pH module into pH 10 solution. Press CAL. When calibration is complete, you will see END on display. Rinse and dry.
Measure pH of soil
- Ensure that pH meter is in normal operation mode and that numbers 4,7 and 10 are encircled.
- Gently touch your soil mix with the tip of clean pH module to determine pH of moist soil. Read soil pH. Rinse and dry.
- Repeat 8 for all soil samples.
- Store pH meter with attached module clean and dry.

Measure pH solution using Hanna pH electrode with temperature sensor connected to Hanna Edge
pH/temperature electrode HI11310 is made for solvents and can measure pH 0 to 13 and -5 to 100°C.
Materials:
- pH electrode connected to Hanna Edge
- working aliquots of calibration standards: pH 4, 7, 10
- cleaning solution
- storage solution
- wash beaker
- rinse bottle with distilled water
- kim wipes
- hand gloves
Methods:
- Connect pH electrode to Hanna Edge tablet. Turn on Hanna edge
Prepare the electrode
- Remove the filling hole cover.
- Remove protective cap by loosening the screw and gently pulling the electrode out.
- Make sure that the electrode is not dry inside and tip is always in contact with liquid.
- Rinse electrode with distilled water. Dry the electrode with Kim wipes.
Calibrate pH electrode using pH 4, 7 and 7 standards
- Dip pH electrode to pH 7 calibration standard buffer. Press Cal/Modify on Edge. Once CFM starts blinking, press GLP/CFM. Rinse electrode and dry with Kim wipes.
- Transfer electrode to pH 4 calibration standard. Once CFM starts blinking, press GLP/CFM. Clean and dry the electrode again.
- Finally, dip the electrode to pH 10 calibration standard. Wait until CFM starts blinking before pressing GLP/CFM.
- Press CAL/Modify to log the calibration curve. Your pH meter is ready to use when the calibration condition is good and the slope is greater than 95%.
Measure pH of solution
- Dip the pH electrode it into your well dissolved solution and wait until the pH value stabilizes. Read pH. Rinse and dry pH electrode.
- Repeat 10 for all solutions.
- Store clean electrode with protective cap back on and filling hole covered.
