Call for Postdoctoral Applications

The Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities at the University of Toronto Mississauga invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow in South Asian Studies. The appointment will begin on February 1, 2025. The post ends on June 1, 2026 with the possibility of extension after successful review. The postdoctoral fellowship at the Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities provides support to a promising early career researcher at a crucial juncture in their career. Candidates must have research and teaching experience relevant to ancient, or modern/contemporary South Asian society, politics or development. Candidates can be in the humanities or social sciences. All applicants should have in-depth knowledge of at least one South Asian language and fluency in English. The post-doctoral fellow will teach one course in each of two terms related to their interests, pursue their own research, and participate in the activities of CSACH.

The Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities is housed at the University of Toronto Mississauga and is dedicated to interdisciplinary and critical engagement with the languages, cultures, religions, peoples and histories of South Asia. While the primary responsibility of the postdoctoral fellow is research, the fellow will also be involved in programming for the Centre for South Asian Critical Humanities and will help foster intellectual community at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The position also includes the teaching of one 12-week course per academic year. The salary will be $50,000 per year, plus a teaching stipend. 

By the time the position begins, applicants should have successfully defended their doctoral dissertation, and the doctorate should have been completed no earlier than 2021. Applicants cannot hold a tenure-track or continuing faculty position at a college or university. Successful international applicants must meet all Canadian immigration requirements. 

We will accept applications immediately with review beginning on December 1, 2024 and continuing until the selections are final. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via Skype and decisions will be made and communicated by December 15, 2024.
