The construction of the UTM science building is well underway. It will provide much-needed wet laboratory space for the campus’s current and planned research needs. It will also provide a world class preclinical animal house. It is expected to be completed in 2023.
- ~90,000 sq ft lab space
- ~110 chemistry 8 ft fume hoods
- ~20-30 biosafety cabinets
- ~5000 animal cages
- ~micro MRI/CT imagers
The CMC is projected to grow to include approximately 130 graduate students, research associates and post-doctoral fellows. Other building occupants will include the forensic sciences program and a high-performance computing data centre.
The new building, will continue the tradition of sustainability at UTM, is aiming for a minimum of Silver certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification process.
