Coding Best Practices with Michael Serafin
Michael Serafin presented the second seminar on Coding Best Practices as part of the 2022-2023 IMI BIGDataAIHUB’s Seminar Series. Key takeaways are captured in this article, and his presentation can be found here.
Self-lead Asynchronous Learning: Elements of AI Courses
This seminar presented several resources to help get started with AI. For those with limited knowledge of AI, Michael suggested a free online course offered by Elements of AI, which was developed by the University of Helsinki. The course is called Intro to AI; it takes between 24 and 30 hours to complete, and a certificate can be added to your LinkedIn profile upon completion (Access details here: https://www.elementsofai.com/). Additionally, there is a second, more advanced, course called Building AI, where participants learn algorithms to create AI methods. This course takes 50 hours to complete and recommends basic Python knowledge.
Synchronous Learning: Carpentries Workshops
Another great resource to get started with coding is offered by The Carpentries, which is a community to teach data and coding skills seeking to target researchers. The cost of The Carpentries workshops typically ranges from $10 to $100. Additional Resources: UofT Libraries
The University of Toronto also hosts workshops that may be relevant, see what is upcoming here: https://libcal.library.utoronto.ca/calendar/libraryworkshops
