Manager, Black Initiatives

Martin Kengo is an equity architect, program strategist, and community mobilizer, who has spent over a decade working on access and inclusion initiatives. He earned his BA in International Development Studies and Political Science at York University and later received his Masters in Public Administration at Queen’s. Prior to joining UofT, has worked in the community, implementing local settlement strategies for newcomers to Canada in Toronto’s east-end neighbourhoods and then at York Region, researching and providing advice and support on various human-services-related initiatives across its nine municipalities.

Since joining U of T’s Centre for Student Engagement in 2018, he has held various positions within student affairs and services that address the removal of barriers to accessing post-secondary education for equity-deserving youth across Halton and Peel Region through programs such as the Black Youth Mentorship, Indigenous Spirit Journey, and STEAM Days at UTM.

 As the Manager, Black Initiatives, he supports UTM’s stakeholders in designing and implementing initiatives that promote Black excellence, inclusion, and belonging as outlined in UofT’s Anti-Black Racism Taskforce report and exploring collaborative opportunities with campus and community partners.
