Jeff Espie is a researcher, writer, and communications strategist, who has promoted the value of higher education for the past fifteen years.
After earning a BA from Guelph, an MSt from Oxford, and a PhD from Toronto, Jeff worked as a national research fellow at the University of British Columbia and held teaching positions in the United States and Canada, including at U of T, where he led a President’s Teaching Award Seminar in the Department of English. Along the way, he developed a communications consulting practice, which supported the publication of over one hundred and fifty research projects: from university press books to university strategic plans.
Jeff applies his experience in the Office of the Vice-President and Principal, where he has shaped the campus’s vision, partnerships, and marquee initiatives, including for UTM’s first Strategic Framework and Peel Region’s first COVID-19 mass vaccine clinic. As Director of Vice-Presidential Communications, Jeff helps to articulate UTM’s priorities; to prepare executive-level messages, speeches, and research; and to formalize emerging strategies and process improvements in writing.
