Eric Shattuck, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Research at the Institute for Health Disparities Research and the Department of Public Health at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research focuses on the connections between biology and behavior as they affect health and sickness across social contexts with a focus on infectious disease. Current projects include cross-cultural comparisons of sickness behavior; the role of anger in driving chronic pain and opioid use/abuse; the efficacy of hospital arts programs on mood, pain, and nausea in cancer patients; and work on social support, sleep, and health in rural Mexico with SHEL members.
