The Course:
MGT463 • Managing Global Organizations
A multinational perspective has become critical to an organization's success. This course explores some of the challenges of managing across and working with cultures. It will also consider ways in which management theories and behaviors may be adapted to ensure their application is carefully considered when applying Western management theories in an international setting. The course weaves together conceptual and practical considerations to create a balanced and exciting learning experience.

The Trip: Iceland Fall Reading Week
Approximate Travel Dates: Friday, October 25th, 2024 - Sunday, November 3rd, 2024
Explore the unique landscape of industries in Iceland with fellow classmates and Professor Soo Min Toh of the Department of Management. Through this trip, you will travel to Reykjavik, Selfoss, and Grinkdavik exploring the incredible landscapes of “the land of fire and ice.” As you journey through this beautiful country, you will meet with social entrepreneurs and leaders in global industries like geothermal energy and tourism.

Sample Itinerary*
Accommodation: Hotel
Transportation: Private Shuttles, Taxis, Public Buses, and Tour Busses.
Meals: Hotel, and Local Restaurants
Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, will be the hub from which you will explore Iceland. You will begin the trip with a walking tour of Reykjavik where you will get to see monumental locales like the Church of Hallgrimur, Parliament House, and Einar Jonsson Museum and Sculpture Garden. You will learn about the revitalization of Iceland’s economy by connecting with experts in the tourism industry. In Reykjavik, you will have some free time as well to explore iconic sites and museums of interest to you. Interspersed in your time in Reykjavik you can expect some additional surprises to immerse you in the local culture and deepen your experience of the city.
Throughout the trip, you will have day excursions to explore Iceland's gorgeous landscapes and meet with experts in various fields. You will travel to Georgbaer and take a tour of Marel. You will take part in the Gold Circle Tour and explore three of the most popular attractions in Iceland – Gulfoss waterfall, Geysir Geyser and Secrets Lagoon. You will also have a chance to explore the South Iceland Glaciers, Waterfalls, and the Black Sand Beach. These excursions will immerse you in the scenery of southern Iceland. At the end of the trip, you will visit and tour the Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant, spending the afternoon unwinding from your travels at the Blue Lagoon.

Payments
Estimated cost of International Component 2024-2025: CAD $4200-4500.
What is Included: Flights, transportation, accommodation, meals, in-country activities associated with the course, and trip-cancellation insurance. Funding Available!
What is NOT Included: Course fees, fees associated with supplemental travel insurance, additional optional tours/activities while abroad, visa applications, medical exams, vaccinations, and any other additional costs.
Funding
Bursaries will be awarded based on demonstrated financial need (not linked to OSAP) as shown in your funding request in your UTM Abroad application. Read more about funding here!
If you have applied for a bursary- You will hear back about your bursary application at the same time as your trip application.

The cost and itinerary are subject to change.
Applicants must submit an application for admission into the course to their respective departments and will be required to abide by the corresponding UTM Abroad application requirements and deadlines to participate in the international experience.
Fees must be paid in full by the required deadlines.
To prepare for the trip, students attending will participate in the mandatory pre-departure and safety abroad sessions which occur in person on campus.
