Why Arts-Based Knowledge Mobilization? Introducing our pip o. Project

Title card for YouTube video entitled “Art, Research, Community”

Community-based research and knowledge mobilization can empower the community, increase engagement and capacity building, and the uptake of evidence-based practices when bolstered by experience-gained knowledge. The pip o. Project is the Centre for Child Development, Mental Health, and Policy’s arts-based knowledge mobilization project. The pip o. team presented a virtual poster at the Canadian Knowledge Mobilization Forum 2024 (CKF) in Montréal, Canada this July 2024 where it was recognized as the “most popular” poster, as it was the highest viewed poster on the conference app. The team includes CCDMP faculty, staff, students, as well as artist collaborators and community partners who were invited as co-authors on the poster.

In this presentation, Arts-based, community-inspired: A child development knowledge mobilization initiative, we share our reflections on valuable practices gained from our experience collaborating with community members and partners to promote social-emotional development in children and families. This includes a mental health promotion field trip for elementary and middle school students, magazine for caregivers and educators, and art exhibit. We hope this might inspire others who are also interested in creating stronger research-practice connections that are innovative, inclusive, and empowering.
