R-BLISS 2024 Focus Group Report
In June and July 2023, the R-BLISS (Black and Indigenous Supports for Social-Emotional Development) Project conducted three virtual focus groups with 16 Black caregivers of children ages 3–8 living in the Peel Region. The purpose of these focus groups was to hear directly from Black caregivers about their perceptions of social-emotional development, including their experiences supporting the healthy social-emotional development of their Black children and feedback for community services and service providers.
Following the focus groups, the R-BLISS team analyzed the focus group data and compiled the key results into a report for our community partners and members of the community. The report highlights the core resulting themes and includes the R-BLISS team’s interpretative analysis of the data, standout quotes from caregivers, and policy recommendations based on the focus group results. We hope that this report can act as a resource that spotlights the current strengths and needs of Black children and families in the Peel Region and can inform efforts to improve care and services for the community.
