DESCRIPTION

The University of Toronto Mississauga Campus Safety team would like to make the U of T community aware of a recent safety concern. This alert is being shared with our full community because many in our community travel from St. George or Scarborough to Mississauga campus for classes, labs, or other purposes. We encourage all members of our community to exercise vigilance and to report any behaviour of concern to Campus Safety (416-978-2222). 

  • On August 4, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an unknown male physically overtook and assaulted a female on the second floor of the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) building on UTM Campus and fled the area. 
  • The suspect is described as 19-23 years old, 6' with a slim build, short black hair with a tanned complexion. 
  • He was wearing black rimmed glasses, a blue polo shirt, and carrying a black knapsack.

  • UTM Campus Safety are actively investigating this incident with Peel Regional Police.
  • Campus Safety will pay special attention to and conduct proactive patrols of the CCT building and adjacent areas.

U of T Campus Safety App and Services

  • Virtual TravelSafer and Mobile Bluelight: These features are available through the U of T Campus Safety App and can be used to trigger a distress beacon to send your location to a Campus Safety dispatcher and summon help in the event of an emergency.

Update your info in U of T's new alert system

The University of Toronto recently upgraded UTAlert, a rapid notification system that is used to spread important campus information such as snow closures, building evacuations, and safety messages. All community members are asked to visit the UTAlert webpage and enter their cellphone numbers. This will allow you to receive critical updates by text. You can also download UTAlert's Alertable app and receive additional safety tools and push notifications.
