Kathy Costopoulos has fond memories of her time as a student with the MBiotech program at U of T Mississauga. Those memories include long days (and nights), but Costopoulos says her dedication to the professional program has helped her find professional success in the pharmeceutical industry. Now working as a medical liason with a major pharmeceutical company, Costopoulos says her education has gives her a professional advantage, touching everything from job applications to day-to-day interactions with colleagues and health care professionals.
Costopolous, who graduated in 2003, made the most of her time at UTM, using student internship placements to build her career and professional profile. Her second internship placement at GlaxoSmithKline opened the door to a long and successful term in clinical research. In the eight years that Costopolous was employed at GSK, she progressed in head office and field-based roles, gaining a breadth of experience with each new position.
Since that time, Costopolous has built on that experience with new challenges. In 2010, Kathy joined Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. as a medical manager for dermatological cancers, where she was instrumental in supporting the launch of a new product. One of her proudest moments was the day that Roche received notification of Health Canada's Notice of Compliance for the product. Recently, Costopolous embarked on another position within the company as a medical liaison in rheumatology where she is enjoying the challenges of learning about a therapeutic area she has not worked in before.
