ALIA TEWARI

Alia TewariHonours B. of Medical Sciences - Physiology

University of Western Ontario

Alia graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) degree, with a specialization in physiology. Alia maintained her position on the Dean’s Honour List throughout her undergraduate career.

During her undergraduate education, she worked in various medical research labs both at Western and McMaster University. Alia worked in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at McMaster University, investigating the role of environmental obesogens in the obesity epidemic. In her last year at Western, she conducted research at the Movement Disorders Centre (MDC), a National Parkinson Foundation Centre of Excellence, under neurologist Dr. Mandar Jog. Alia published two separate review articles on the subthalamic nucleus and assisted with various clinical research projects associated with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, it was in the lab where Alia gained exposure to the field of healthcare innovation, as she saw the development and implementation of medical technology developed by researchers at MDC. As a result, she saw the need for innovation management and became interested in healthcare innovation.

Alia has also served on the executive team of many student groups, such as the Vice President of Marketing for the Bachelor of Medical Sciences Association at Western University. Outside of academia, she founded ‘Afsana Dance Group’ – a charity based dance team which performs across Ontario and donates proceeds to the Women’s Empowerment International Foundation (WEIF). She is also an avid photographer and  competitive basketball and hockey player.

Alia is confident that the MMI program will complement her scientific background and provide her with the necessary management skills to become a leader in the field of innovation management and consulting.
