Principal Deep Saini hosts final town hall

Students, staff and faculty attended a town hall session on April 6, 2016 to discuss areas of concern and opportunities for growth at U of T Mississauga.

It was the final town hall for Vice-President and Principal Deep Saini, who will take up new duties with Australia’s University of Canberra in September 2016.

The town hall was a departure from the question-and-answer sessions of previous meetings. Using a ‘listening forum” format, audience members spoke for up to three minutes about particular issues, providing background, context and suggestions.

“We believe this listening forum will provide an effective platform for the UTM community to better understand issues so we can address challenges and move forward together,” Saini said. “Following the meeting, my executive team and I will be able to address the issues in a substantive and thoughtful way, and communicate with the appropriate individuals.”

Topics raised at the town hall included campus safety initiatives, financial support for students, training opportunities for staff and faculty and requests for more picnic tables and prayer spaces.

Full responses to issues raised in the meeting will be posted to the website for the Office of the Vice-President and Principal.
