Sunanda Tah wins award!

At the recent Ontario Ecology, Evolution and Ethology (OE3C) meeting in Kingston, Ontario, undergraduate student Sunanda Tah from Shannon McCauley’s lab was the runner-up for the Best Undergraduate Poster award.

Sunanda recently completed her BIO481 project in the McCauley lab. Her project is entitled: The Effects of Fear Mediated Immune Response in Dragonfly Larvae (Leucorrhinia intacta).

Sunanda’s project involved studying the responses by dragonfly larvae to cues signaling the presence of predators and the effect on individual performance and population growth. Knowing that cannibalism is also common among dragonfly larvae, the project also assessed whether the larvae exhibited similar responses to caged potential conspecifics. They found that larvae exposed to conspecifics had a significantly higher response compared to the non-conspecific group.

Congratulations, Sunanda!
