Criminal Profiler and Board Chair, Victim Justice Network
Kate Lines was a member of the Ontario Provincial Police for over 33 years. Throughout her career she worked as a police officer on uniform patrol, undercover drug investigations, fraud investigations, intelligence and major crimes such as homicide and sexual assault. From 1990 to 1991, Lines was given the opportunity of a lifetime: to be chosen as the second-ever Canadian to participate in an elite program at Quantico, Virginia with what was then the emerging field of criminal profiling. She was trained by the FBI to become Canada’s first female criminal profiler. Lines was voted Canadian Police Leader of the Year in 2004.
In 2010, Lines retired at the rank of Chief Superintendent in charge of the OPP’s Investigation and Support Bureau with over 500 uniform and civilian employees. Her responsibilities included oversight of major criminal investigations, behavioural sciences, electronic crimes, technical support services, and forensic identification services across Ontario.
Lines is now a licenced private investigator specializing in workplace harassment and violence and human rights investigations. She also teaches an online course on criminal investigative analysis.
Lines’ autobiography, Crime Seen: From Patrol Cop to Criminal Profiler, was published by Random House Canada in April 2015.
